About the event
Join award-winning photographer Saxon Holt on a photographic journey through his new book, Gardening in Summer-Dry Climates: Plants for a Lush, Water-Conscious Landscape. Co-authored with Nora Harlow, Gardening in Summer-Dry Climates is a guide to native and climate-adapted plants for summer-dry, winter-wet climates of North America's Pacific coast. Knowing what these climates share and how and why they differ, you can choose to make gardens that maintain and expand local and regional biodiversity, take little from the earth that is not returned, and welcome and accommodate the presence of wildlife.
Saxon Holt is a garden photographer of more than 20 books, is on the Board of Pacific Horticulture Society, and is a Fellow of GardenComm - the Garden Writers Association. His work as a photojournalist increasingly focuses on the relationship between gardens and the land, seeking a sustainable aesthetic that can enhance both gardener and the earth. Saxon has a long-standing relationship with San Francisco Botanical Garden, both as a garden photographer and as a photography instructor. His stunning photographs of San Francisco Botanical Garden are featured on the Garden’s website and in many of the Garden’s publications. He directs the summer-dry project and collaboration with the WUCOLS database to help gardeners find plants that will contribute to the health of the planet.
