What an exciting second day of camp we had!

Today our campers learned all about different ways that nature functions on its own. The theme for today was Nature Alone as we focused on how nature operates when we as people are not there to interact with them.

We started our day off as usual by getting out some excess energy in the gallery courtyard before gathering for rules. We had campers remind each other of the rules, talking about garden safety, respecting one another and the plants, and how to have fun while at camp. After going over the rules we sang some songs as a large group.

Have you ever seen a penguin dancing? All of your campers have!

Once we finished song time we split up into our two groups, heading out to start the day. We began our sunny Tuesday by going on walks with Children's Guides throughout the Garden. Each group was split into smaller groups so the guides could give more individualized and focused attention to your campers.

After our walks, campers settled down to eat their lunch and play some games.

During Ecology, AJ had our campers running around playing a game of blob tag. They discussed predators who exist in the wild do nothing but consume, consume, consume until there's nothing left! After that we learned about the food web. We took some time learning about how energy flows up the food web, but also how it flows back down.

With Ingrid, campers headed back up to Coyote Landing to make some bath bombs. Using simple ingredients like olive oil, baking soda, and lemon juice, campers were able to make their very own. Campers added ingredients from the Children's Garden to make their bath bombs unique.

We had a nice warm weather lasted throughout the day and we made sure to reapply sunscreen every couple of hours while hiding from the sun!

Questions For My Camper:

We hope that once you're home for the day you're continuing to engage with your campers about Garden Camp and the things that they learned. Here are a few questions that you could ask them to get the conversation started!

-What herbs did you add to your bath bomb? Why did you choose those?

-What did nature sound like today? What did nature smell like today?

-How do you think humans fit in to the web of life?

Thanks for another great day! See you tomorrow.

Warmly,

Jenn Tapler
