It may not have started to cool down completely just yet, but that didn't stop us from having another exciting day at Garden Camp!
Today was our very first Adventure Day in which we left the Botanical Garden to explore some cool places nearby. After donning our Garden Camp t-shirts and discussing how to stay safe during Adventure Day, campers and their group leaders headed out nice and early to get started.
There's a No Tree Climbing rule in our Garden, so one of the biggest highlights from Adventure Day was all of the cool trees everyone had the option to climb in the Rhododendron Garden. After having some morning time of climbing trees and drawing in journals, campers headed toward the Conservatory of Flowers.
There's a lot of space by the Conservatory that the camp groups absolutely loved. They spent a lot of time enjoying different outside areas nearby before eating lunch in a shady spot together.
After lunch it was time to go into the Conservatory. Small groups broke into smaller groups so they could easily walk the paths inside without being overcrowded. This gave all campers an opportunity to really focus on different areas in the Conservatory and have some individualized attention with their group leads.
Some of the rooms in the Conservatory had different humidity levels and different temperatures which allowed for different types of plants and flowers to grow. There were even areas in the Conservatory where there were fish! The carnivorous plants were some of our campers favorites, followed by aquatic plants and tropical plants. The corpse flowers were also a hit!
Some other highlights from Adventure Day were when our campers found a platform they used as a stage to play charades, sprinkler time over at the Conservatory, climbing trees and looking for fairy houses, and when one of our groups saved a drowning butterfly from a fountain.
Groups had a lot of freedom during Adventure Day to explore and satisfy their curiosity while still having a chance to learn! There are so many plants and flowers in the Conservatory that have adapted to different conditions that they got to walk through. I'm sure your camper has their very own favorite part of the day that they would love to share with you. Unfortunately we were unable to stop by Stow Lake today, but that's only because campers were deeply enjoying the Conservatory and other activities they'd been partaking in!
