Join Steven Pitsenbarger, garden supervisor at the Japanese Tea Garden as he describes his recent visitation and study of several iconic gardens of Japan. Steven will share his expert lens on the feelings these gardens evoked, and how these designs fit into the realm of Japanese landscaping. He will also discuss how this visit adjusts our understanding of where the Garden of Golden Gate Park’s Japanese Tea Garden fits within this venerable art form.

Steven Pitsenbarger is the garden supervisor at San Francisco’s Japanese Tea Garden, where he has worked since 2007. Steven is also the garden’s historian, presenting and publishing articles on the subject for garden enthusiasts and professional organizations. Steven currently serves on the board of directors for the North American Japanese Garden Association as well as the Mill Valley Historical Society.
